Innovation & Technology Transfer

The Innovation & Technology Transfer Department serves as an interface between science, industry, and education at the institute. It provides a structured framework for all transfer-related processes at the FBH.

Its activities are based on five pillars:

  • Research management supports third-party-funded projects, aims to increase external funding, and enhances the transfer potential of R&D projects.
  • Business Development identifies, evaluates, and exploits market opportunities for the institute's research results and technologies, while establishing long-term industrial partnerships.
  • Industrial Order Management implements systematic and efficient processes for acquiring, managing, and conducting contract research and industrial projects.
  • Support for spin-offs promotes and supports the creation of new companies based on the institute's research results, from idea validation through to successful market entry.
  • Education management specifically promotes young talent and strengthens sustainable skills development at the regional and national level.

By systematically combining research excellence, industrial cooperation, and entrepreneurship, the FBH strengthens its position as a key driver of innovation and a reliable partner for industry in the development of future technologies.

In addition, the FBH offers a broad range of scientific services to customers from research and industry and manufactures scientific prototypes in small series. Through its Prototype Engineering Lab, the FBH supports innovative product ideas and facilitates their transfer with the support of its spin-offs.

With the APECS pilot line, the FBH and its research partners within the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD) provide large industrial companies as well as SMEs and
start-ups with low-threshold access to cutting-edge technologies. This access accelerates technology transfer and innovation, thereby contributing to secure and resilient semiconductor value chains.

Education & Training Management

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut has been promoting dual and academic education and training as well as provision of skilled workers in the high-tech sector for many years. Activities are focused on sustainably recruiting junior staff and secure skilled personnel for the commercial and technical sector – not only on behalf of the institute itself, but also for the Photonics Cluster in the Berlin Brandenburg region within funded projects. The ANH Berlin network (Education and Training Network High Technology), located at the FBH, counsels and actively supports companies and institutes in vocational education and training. In addition, ANH Berlin offers young people an insight into exciting professional fields as part of various career orientation programs and connects interested applicants with companies that are offering training. The proANH e. V. association was founded to consolidate these activities.
