The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut in Berlin, together with eight scientific institutions and companies, is participating in the new campaign by the Adlershof Technology Park. This initiative, launched by WISTA Management GmbH on June 8, aims to send a strong message of openness and tolerance.

As part of his informational and meet-and-greet tour, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, together with the Diplomatic Corps and Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke, visited the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) at the Cottbus campus on June 13, 2024. In the context of the structural transformation project "iCampµs" in Lusatia, the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH) presented a novel portable Raman sensor system.

Petros Beleniotis received the Best Student Paper Award at the WOCSDICE-EXMATEC 2024 conference in Heraklion, Crete, Greece for his paper “A Computational Modeling Method for Performance Optimization of GaN HEMT” in collaboration with Christos Zervos and Matthias Rudolph.

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, in collaboration with the Aus- und Weiterbildungsnetzwerk Hochtechnologie (Advanced Training Network for High Technology) (ANH Berlin), is committed to securing the next generation of talent in the high-tech sector. This fall, the institute will once again offer three apprenticeships for microtechnologists, alongside a variety of initiatives for all qualification levels. ANH Berlin also arranges apprenticeships in other technical and scientific fields.

“‘Sawfish’ Photonic Crystal Cavity for Near-Unity Emitter-to-Fiber Interfacing in Quantum Network Applications” by authors from FBH, ZIB, and HUB has made it onto the cover of “Advanced Optical Materials” (Volume 12, Issue 13).

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut has developed a terahertz (THz) line scanner for plastic components, enabling cost-effective realization of larger scan line lengths in industrial environments. For the first time, the technology demonstrator is based entirely on monolithically integrated THz detectors.

“High-mobility 4 μm MOVPE-grown (100) β-Ga₂O₃ film by parasitic particles suppression” by authors from IKZ and FBH has been specially selected as one the 2023 highlight papers in the Japanese Journal of Applied Physics.

A joint publication by authors from the TU Berlin, the FBH, and the IKZ is among the top 10 downloaded publications in Physica Status Solidi (A) - Applications and Material Science.

The publication “Au-Free Ohmic Contact for GaN High-Electron-Mobility Transistors” by Hossein Yazdani, Serguei Chevtchenko, Frank Brunner, Günther Tränkle, and Joachim Würfl stands out as one of the most widely read papers in physica status solidi (a) - applications and materials science.

The Leibniz Lab Pandemic Preparedness: One Health, One Future connects excellent inter- and transdisciplinary research. FBH contributes its expertise in the development of innovative UV light-emitting diodes (UV LEDs) and related irradiation systems to the Leibniz Lab.

The publication "Portable shifted excitation Raman difference spectroscopy for on-site soil analysis" authored by Martin Maiwald, Kay Sowoidnich, and Bernd Sumpf is not only among the top 10% downloads but also one of the top cited articles of the Journal of Raman Spectroscopy. The paper is about supporting soil analysis using Raman spectroscopy as a substance-specific measurement method that can be utilized on site.

Ever heard about quantum internet? No? Then Prof. Dr. Tim Schröder's inaugural lecture on February 6, 2024 is the ideal opportunity to find out more. In his lecture "Quantum physics and technology with glamor – how diamonds make the quantum internet possible", he will explain how tap-proof quantum communication works with the help of quantum light. 

At Photonics West 2024 in San Francisco (USA), the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH) will be presenting novel and advanced diode lasers and UV light-emitting diodes (LEDs). FBH will be participating in both the trade fair (January 27 to February 1, 2024) and the accompanying conferences (January 30 to February 1, 2024) with more than 20 scientific talks. At stand 4205-43 in the German Pavilion, the Berlin-based institute will be showcasing its full range of services ­– from design and chip development to modules and prototypes.

In January 2024, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Patrick Scheele (48) has been appointed the new Scientific Managing Director of the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH). This management function is linked to the W3 professorship of "Microwave and Optoelectronics" at Technische Universität Berlin. Together with Administrative Managing Director Dr. Karin-Irene Eiermann, Scheele will from now on form the joint executive management of the FBH gGmbH.
