Quantum Technologies in Berlin

Establishing value chains

The Berlin-Brandenburg region has a strong expertise in photonics, a key technology for quantum technology (QT) applications. Additional competencies lie in the application fields of quantum communication and sensor technology. Working groups from all three Berlin universities represent basic research in the value chain, while the research institutes combine research and application with their technology development. Regional companies are already active in the industrial sector, providing components for QT applications.

The InnoQT network provides a cooperation platform for these and other stakeholders. It jointly defines strategic goals, implements them and transfers QT research results into applications in order to utilize them commercially. For the future, the protagonists expect that regional, national and international industrial suppliers of systems will increasingly establish themselves on the market, offering solutions based on quantum technologies. In the long run, the network will contribute to sharpening the regional profile of the capital region and developing it into an internationally important QT industrial location.

As a kick-off event, the "Innovationsforum Photonische Quantentechnologien" was held in early March 2020. The Quantum Future Academy, aiming at students of natural and engineering sciences from 29 countries, took place digitally in 2020 and 2021 and was held as in-person event in 2022.
