Jenoptik expands its production facilities in Berlin. Georg Schütte (State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education and Research), Michael Mertin (CEO, Jenoptik AG), Jürgen Sebastian (Managing Director, Jenoptik Diode Lab) and Günther Tränkle (Director, Ferdinand-Braun-Institut) laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the semiconductor production. The ceremony was attended by around 80 invited guests, including representatives from business, politics and industry. A total of around 10 million euros will be invested in the extension. Jenoptik Diode Lab is a result of the close cooperation between Jenoptik and the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut. It has been spun-off in February 2002 and is an example for successful technology transfer: The company develops optoelectronic semiconductor devices for diode lasers using research results from the institute. In 2006, Diode Lab opened its own production facility in Berlin Adlershof. Due to the internationally increasing demand for laser bars, this high-tech plant will now be extended.
