At the heart of each LCT on Sentinel-1A and Alphasat is a solid state Nd-doped YAG laser, which transmits light at a wavelength of 1064 nm. The laser is pumped by a space-qualified laser diode bench made by Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz Institut für Höchstfrequenzetechnik (FBH), which is a centre of excellence for III-V compound semiconductors.
