Abstract:
This letter describes the concept, fabrication and testing of adaptive tapered edge emitting amplifiers. The amplifiers are equipped with thermal control sections, that allow horizontal beam shaping within the device. The adaptive beam shaping is accessible independent of other amplifier operation parameters. An influence on the shape and position of the virtual beam waist was observed. A longitudinal position shift was used to counteract the amplifier-intrinsic astigmatism variation for different working points. An astigmatism stabilization was demonstrated for a significant amplifier driving current variation
