Microwave Systems for Wireless Communications and Radar Applications

Lecture in WS 2023/24 (VL 0431 L 400)

Mast with different antennas for radio and mobile communication with view to the Sassolungo in South Tyrol/Italy

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Heinrich

TUB / Fachgebiet Höchstfrequenztechnologien
Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH),
Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik

Date/Location

  • Friday, 8.30 – 10.00 hrs (2 SWS)
  • 1st lecture on 20/10/2023
  • Room: TUB, Campus Charlottenburg HFT-TA 101

Summary: The lecture deals with wireless communication and radar systems in the microwave frequency range (1 GHz … 100+ GHz). It begins with the basics of wireless links and then provides an overview on the corresponding transmitters and receivers, their working principles, the concepts for realization, and the important parameters. Starting from the system requirements, the component specifications are derived. This top-down approach differs from that of most other lectures in this field and ideally complements the corresponding lectures on circuits and design.

Topics

  • Wireless links and antennas
  • Communication systems and modulation
  • Radar: Principles of operation and realization
  • Basic circuit types and their critical parameters

The lecture is part of the module #40207 "Hochfrequenzsysteme und ‑bauelemente" within the master course Elektrotechnik. It provides basic skills for microwave system design. Lecture language is German. The exam is oral, date/time to be agreed.
